Nokia’s ‘Comes with Music’ now playing…

Nokia already signed the contract with Carphone Warehouse of United Kingdom allowing the company to sell the first model of their ‘Comes with Music’ gadget.

‘Comes with Music’ is a feature that allows users to keep all the music they have downloaded during the 12 months. Surprisingly, this comes free with every Nokia’s package and was made possible when Universal, Sony BMG and Warner Music Group have signed deals with Nokia to offer their tracks on the service.

“We believe that Comes With Music will transform the way people enjoy music,” said Tero Ojanpera, Head of the Nokia Entertainment. “With unlimited music access for a year, you can enjoy your favorite artists or delve into new genres without having to worry about individual track or album purchases.”

Nokia N79, N85 and N96 hands-on

Nokia N79, N85 and N96 hands-on

Well, they're here. Nokia's latest and greatest N-series devices just hit the market like a trio of well-aimed bricks -- or at least that's what Nokia's hoping. We got to spend a little bit of hands-on time with prototypes of the new devices, and while we came away slightly impressed, we were nowhere near E-series impressed. Here's our biggest problem with the lineup: the only one worth talking about is the N85. Other than minor screen size disparities, the 16GB built-in memory of the N96 and the fresh candybar form of the N79, these three phones are pretty much exactly identical on specs, and yet the N96 manages to be inexcusably bulky, while the N79 sports an inexcusably terrible screen -- we're hoping that was just the prototype being funky, but we saw two versions with the same problem. The N85 isn't exactly the pinnacle of thinphoneness, but its amazing OLED screen and more refined design make the N96 look like more of a rough draft than a sibling. On the interface side, the phones are much more responsive to S60's new motion and transitions, but Nokia has oddly chosen to disable the Navi Wheel scrolling in all three phones -- a weird move, but we can't say we blame them, we haven't had a single good experience with Navi Wheel since Nokia introduced it. In all, we're not exactly thrilled about Nokia's prospects for winning over the masses with this new series of devices. Sure, Nokia will protest that it's going after the high-end users, but 5 megapixel cameras, GPS and WiFi are no longer the differentiators they once were, and users have begun to expect thinner, sexier devices at prices far below the N96's gargantuan $895 pricetag.

Casio's 8 megapixel Exilim W63CA cellphone gets FCC approved

Casio's 8 megapixel Exilim W63CA cellphone gets FCC approved

First off, the chance of this Japanese super-phone coming to the US or anywhere else outside of Nippon is slim. FCC approval or not, it's likely only being tested for global roaming. However, as slim is its chances are, they've improved dramatically now that Japan's government is behind a push to promote its twisty, folding phones abroad. This Exilim-branded Casio / Hitachi mashup sports an 8 megapixel camera and with any luck, it's using that new Omnivision sensor meant to revolutionize cameraphones. As followup to the W53CA, this 3G W63CA flip will no doubt feature the same high-resolution, 800 x 480 pixel swiveling display of its cousin. With autumn nearing, we expect to see the W63A announced any day in a typical shotgun blast of seasonal phones from KDDI.

Google chimes in on GTalk, Bluetooth removals from Android S...

Google chimes in on GTalk, Bluetooth removals from Android SDK

So we can rest easy for another night -- and the so can the Bluetooth headsets of would-be Dream owners, knowing they've dodged a bullet and won't be unceremoniously tossed into the compactor in a couple months' time. The removal of Bluetooth APIs for developers in the latest build of the Android SDK stoked fears that the nearly ubiquitous standard would somehow get dropped from the first round of devices, but Google has stepped in with the straight dope to clarify why exactly the references disappeared: Android's developers plumb ran out of time to make it available and fully functional to third parties. Engineer Nick Pelly makes it clear on no uncertain terms that the first devices will support headsets and the like out of the box, but to meet the gold deadline, they had to nix it from the publicly accessible APIs. The good news is that they want to add usable APIs back in with a future, post-1.0 release, but that won't be doing the first round of devs (and buyers) much good.

The story with another yanked API, meanwhile, is a little different. As the name implies, GTalkService was intended to open up Google Talk's XMPP-based framework to applications in such a way that they could be handled like any other message on the device. Cool, yes, but the company's security gurus realized that the functionality opened up a potential can of security worms, noting for instance that a multiplayer game could repurpose a user's Google Talk account for in-game contact, at which point a bunch of random n00bs could suddenly appear on your buddy list. Not cool. Google's verbiage leads us to believe that GTalkService won't be reintroduced any time soon, either, so we're just going to have to get over that one.

Klausner says "not so fast," sues Verizon and LG over visual voicemail

So patent holding firm Klausner Technologies figures it has this whole litigation thing down to a T at this point, having already sued a who's-who of companies having anything to do with visual voicemail in the past and ultimately coming away with a whole bunch of lucrative license agreements for its efforts (eleven, to be exact). Needless to say, any new company that tries to break into the game at this point is probably going to get treated with the same warm, fuzzy love, and Verizon and LG are experiencing that firsthand. Klausner has announced that it has filed suit against both companies in Texas federal court, presumably in response to Big Red's recent launch of the refreshed Voyager featuring visual voicemail software on board. Given the track record Klausner has, guys, you might just want to cut to the chase here and pay up.

When it rains, it pours: Verizon XV6800 gets hooked up with WinMo 6.1

We're not sure if it's coincidence or if there's some concerted effort to push out overdue Windows Mobile 6.1 updates all of a sudden, but for whatever reason, Verizon's XV6800 is joining the AT&T Tilt this week in offering an official upgrade package for the first time. Could've come a little quicker, honestly -- Sprint beat 'em out the door by a country mile -- but let's just thank our lucky stars that it finally happened, shall we?

BlackBerry Storm 9530 for Verizon gets boxed

BlackBerry Storm 9530 for Verizon gets boxed

So we might not have a physical device here, but these packaging renderings are pretty solid evidence of exactly what BlackBerry fans on Verizon -- particularly those jealous of the Bold -- can expect in a few weeks' time. It looks like RIM's first foray into the scary world of touchscreens will be officially branded the 9530 Storm, will be global (it includes a SIM card, after all), and will feature an 8GB SanDisk microSD card preinstalled. Wondering what happened to the Thunder name? Turns out that'll apparently be reserved for the version of the phone launching on Rogers up in Canada and on Vodafone across the pond. Those Storm users on the screen there sure look happy, don't they?

While many companies find it hard to stay firm with their pledge to produce greener products, Sony Ericsson is able to do it with flying colors despite recycling a mere 1 to 3 percent of its own. For this reason, Sony Ericsson earned top honors in the latest Greenpeace Guide to Green Electronics.

Motorola Blaze: An iPhone Match Or Just Another Rabbit From...

Competing with both the current and the upcoming iPhones is no laughing matter, and the whole mobile phone industry knows this. Verizon Wireless, for one, has been piling up on various touchscreen handsets in an attempt to devise an effective iPhone-busting strategy, and eventually gain its share of satisfied touchscreen-loving customers. The scheme may not have fully worked yet, but Verizon has once again pulled something out of its sleeves.

Voice-Activated Google Maps For Blackberry Pearl Now Availab...

Google has gone experimental with its recently launched new version of the Google Maps Mobile for the RIM Blackberry Pearl.

The new version of the Google Maps Mobile client now comes with software that makes use of voice recognition principles to aid users in their search for specific locations, directions, and other relevant inquiries. Basically, the process involves pressing and holding the handset’s side button and speaking out whatever information is needed.

Although the new feature is regarded as experimental, Google has had previous exposure with speech recognition technology as exemplified by its free, voice-activated GOOG-411 service. The new version of Google Maps Mobile for the Blackberry Pearl is available for free download at http://www.google.com/gmm.

Motorola Adventure V750 making an entry in the market this 2...

Motorola 2344

The Motorola Adventure V750 is finally going to be in the market by July 28, 08. This is a real cell phone that carries many features along with it and Verizon’s next generation Push-to-Talk technology is the main feature that is running over the EVDO Rev.

You can get a lot in a handset worth only $99.99. Other features include 2 megapixel camera and microSDHC expansion. This handset is certified to military specifications. Motorola Adventure V750 is a complete package of style and features.

You really can’t expect something extraordinary in just a small investment. It is almost similar to VU30 but has different design language. Hopefully, it gets the appreciation it deserve.

Nokia E66 is another presentation of Business Phone by Nokia

Nokia E66

Nokia E66 is mostly like Nokia E71; Nokia E66 has got silver as its color. One must know that a silver color in itself is considered as the formal color. One can call it the color of business.

So, it has been brought out by many websites that it has same basic features as Nokia E71 but few additions integrated features includes features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, 3G support. It comes in two colors white and grey and the best part is that automatically it gets to full screen mode and silent mode.

It is designed so finely that everything works smoothly. One can say that the competition is so tough that a company like Nokia can’t afford to stay back and that is why they are bringing the best collection to the market. One must say that Nokia E66 is recommended.

Nokia Pressures Opponents by Consistent Price Decrease

If I, the user, were to buy a new mobile phone unit, of course I would choose a trusted brand that focuses on form and function. But most of all, I would also examine its affordability. This is probably what Nokia is considering that their clients might be thinking.

In line with this, Nokia cut prices for many of its handsets in July, causing its rivals to get tensed as they lowers down the costs of their units. For one, Motorola is already rumored to be struggling in losses since its flagship RAZR phone lost appeal among consumers.

Nokia increased its market share to 41 percent in the second quarter, helped by surging demand in emerging markets.

Garmin Announces GPS-Enabled Nuviphone

Personal navigation device maker Garmin will be releasing a PND phone that could very well be an iPhone killer if the price is right. The Nuviphone (or nuviphone) boasts a 3.5-inch touchscreen and noteworthy features like 3.5G HSDPA connectivity, GPS and built-in video camera that looks as iPhone-killing as any we’ve seen from other touch screen phones. Garmin will be using its own OS with a web browser included. The user interface makes it very easy to access its main features with three big buttons - “Phone,” “Search,” and “Navigation” - right at home page. Besides calling and text, you can email and use instant messaging software. It also supports MP3 and MPEG4/AAC for your multimedia needs. That’s all the information from Garmin for now. Even without Wi-Fi and the choice of a proprietary OS instead of the more popular mobile phone OSes like Symbian and Windows Mobile, Garmin’s reputation in navigation should be enough to make the nuviphone a hot topic. Release date is Q3 of this year.

Customized zzzPhone Beats N95, to Kill Bug Labs

The zzzPhone is not a concept and the makers do not claim it is revolutionary, unlike some brick-manufacturers we know. What it is is a cheap Windows Mobile Phone that you can order now for a really cheap price. Imagine for $149 you get much of N95’s specs with added touch screen and pre-installed Skype. The standard zzzPhone comes with a 3 megapixel camera but there is an optional upgrade to a 5 megapixel one. It’s like Dell Computers but only applied in handsets, and we all know how great Dell is.

Elite Electronix, Verizon to Sell Meizu M8?

We just brought you news about the M8 (miniOne) being available through wholesale suppliers. Mere hours later, other leads on the M8’s availability have been popping up. One such lead goes straight to an online retail site, Elite-Electronix, is selling on a pre-order basis a 4GB M8 phone unlocked for $299.95. The specs given on site generally matched those given by the suppliers except for the inclusion of a VGA camera in front for video conferencing and additional 3G and even 3.5G connectivity in a future date. Elite Electronix must be in direct contact with Meizu execs as we haven’t heard fom CEO Jack Wong himself about 3G or 3.5G. A 2/ 4-year protection plan from Elite Electronix can be purchased separately for the M8. The site also says the Meizu will ship March 2008.

Report on China’s Cloning Industry

Popular Science writer Dan Koeppel went to China for a close-up look at Meizu’s elusive miniOne, also called the M8, but learned about the China’s blooming cloning industry. Everything can be cloned in China, even a Mercedes Benz C-class. China’s copycats have become a lot more sophisticated since they started copying Western products in the Eighties. From imitation Levi’, the Chinese have upgraded their cloning technology to include the most hi-tech gadget, including the Apple iPhone. The technology of cloning in China has gotten so good, they can come out with a perfect copy of a product within a month (and we know this only too well).
Koeppel has noted that Japan and Korea also went through the same stages before being globally competitive on original products. In the Popsci article, Koeppel observes that what is happening to the iPhone right now happened to an LG Phone a few years back. The LG Chocolate is still one of the most copied gadget in China, and elements of its design are seen practically everywhere in the mainland. The article concludes with a rosy picture for China’s tech industry. Eventually the Chinese will be good enough to produce original products and follow in Japan’s and Korea’s footsteps… well, only on a much bigger scale. Read on for a video demo of a Chinese iPhone clone.
