CeBIT 2007 Video: Superwiser Flash PMPs.

At the Superwiser booth we get to see their new PMP with a 2.4″ screeen, 4GB Flash built-in memory, SD Card slot, USB, scroll-wheel navigation and… well that’s about it. The features are pretty standard and the main selling point for this little player will probably be the price, like all the other offerings from Shenzhen companies with numberous product lines.

Meizu Music Card M3 iPod killer in China?

The much anticipated release of the Meizu Music Card, also known as M3 is finally here. Even though it’s a little bit over a month later then the expected release date, a lot of the electrnics stores in China now have the M3 on their shelves. With the news also come the official price confirmations: 500/599/899 CNY which is about $65/$80/$120 for the 2GB/4GB and 8GB versions.

After the break check out a bunch of pictures of the actual units along with a nice size comparison to iPod Nano, cigarettes, business cards and we even see some macro shots of the controls and ports. The guys at HandPop always get some great images.

We also added a video by Charbax from CeBIT 2007 with some hands-on action.

Video: Aigo sponsored McLaren Mercedes F1

As we have said before, Aigo is one of the largest powerhouses in China manufacturing a wide variety of electronics including some pretty cool portable media players.

So in this video you get to see what 40 million sponsorship gets you, and we have to say it’s pretty sweet. The McLaren Mercedes MP4-22, piloted by two-times world champion Fernando Alonso and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton accepted Aigo as last sponsor for this years Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team.

It would be pretty cool if we get some F1 Mercedes inspired PMP from Aigo, but for now we would like to wish good luck to the Vodafone team!

MSI MS-8890T with Touch-Sensitive Controls

MSI MS-8890T

With all the hype around LG “Chocolate” phone, when it was coming out, especially around its “touch-sensitive” controls, it became fairly obvious that this is something we can all expect from many other manufacturers of portable devices. Here is one such device, the MS-8890T.

MSI, here in the States is mainly known for motherboards and video cards, but in China they have developed a line of MP3 and MP4 players of pretty decent quality and good prices. To keep it short, one of the only features that makes MS-8890T stand out is the touch-sensitive controls with blue backlight. Other then that the list of features is this: 2.4″ QVGA Screen, 2GB Flash memory, FM tuner, Voice Recorder, mini-SD slot and USB2.0 support.

So with a pretty standard featurelist, what is it only the touch controls that are supposed to be the seling point? Not quite, this nice and compact player will only set you back around 399 yuan (around $50). There is also the fact that MSI is a giant of a company that’s been around for over 20 years and they know what they’re doing.

Chinese Firm Shows Confidence in iPhone With New Accessory

In case recent posts here about Apple’s iPhone have made a few Apple fans depressed, this news from China have persoanlly renewed my faith in Apple and for an iPhone in June. In a trade show in China, somewhat spotted these protective jackets for the iPhone. In an earlier post, we concluded that the Zune will fail based on the apparent lack of Zune imitations in the Chinese electronics market. China, we believe has the ability to tell the fortune of electronics products from the West. In the iPhone’s case, China is saying “an auspicious year to come out with something new with multi-touch screen.”

Meizu miniOne Looking Less Like iPhone

Meizu has released new official photos of the M8 miniOne, a cellphone that share a lot of similarities with the upcoming iPhone, not least the touchscreen face of both phones. In case you didn’t know, Meizuhas intended to release their iPhone killer initially as an iPod Video killer withou the telephony capabilities. I suppose beside features that are way dissimilar to the iPhone, miniOne can also boast of a design that has significant differences with Apple’s first mobile phone.

Newman M950A Stainless Steel Camera-PMP

Newman reminds us that convergence devices are here to stay. Their Newman M950A has an ultra shiny stainless steel casing to house its 2.4-inch 240 × 320 260k-color TFT LCD. This PMP can be connected to a computer and be used as a webcam with its 2 megapixel camera on the back. It plays AVI videos and JPEG files set up in video mode. It also plays MP3 and WMA. The file browser should be easy to use and it comes with an English-Chinese dictionary, it reads E-Books and preloaded with 8 NES games. The M950A is priced very cheaply at 599 yuan or about $78 USD for the 4GB player. For a PMP player and a 2MP camera, $78 is quite a bargain.

As you can see, yes that’s the company name, Blog. If you get lucky and pick up their new player which should be hitting the stores shortly, you probably won’t be logging into your WordPress and writing some posts, but what you will do is watch some content on a 4.3″ screen with 16:9 aspect ratio ready for HD. You will also have a better audio experience with double speakers, or use AV-Out to go through your TV.

One of the features we have been seeing recently is the ability to install 3rd party hard drives which is also implemented here allowing you going anywhere from 40 to 120 GB. “Surely 120GB is more then enough”, you might say, oh yes you do. This player is pretty much a portable DVR with recording functions and ability to schedule when you want the recording to start.

With all the features and HDD storage the unit is a bit bulky and the design is not the sexiest ever, but this player definitely makes up for it with it’s abilities.

The Hacha PA20 is Another Touchscreen PMP to Look Forward to

Chinese PMP maker Hacha is making a 3.2-inch touchscreen portable media player. The controls will all be available on the screen. This is a video and audio player and should have video recording as well. If Hacha is serious in making the PA20 a real player they should include a TV tuner. But for now not much is known. Even the official pic gives us very little.

Meizu MiniOne Chinese iPhone Clone More Advanced Than The Re...

We’ve been waiting for a more complete set of specs of the MiniOne for quite a while. We know it’s going to be a touchscreen and have similar form factor as the iPhone, albeit smaller. But now we know more, and it is impressive to say the least:

Meizu M6SE in Production

Meizu M6SE

On the Meizu boards there is a post announcing that the Special Edition of Meizu M6 will be dropping the 700mAh and going for 500mAh to achive a significantly thinner product. The player will be coming in at just 7mm (0.27″) and will be most likely only available in 8GB flavor, with a price tag of around $130 (999Yuan).

So how thin is this one? Well it’s pretty close to their Music Card player, and that’s pretty slim. This Meizu M6SE has been talked about for a bit now, but this is a definite confirmation that it’s coming.

The New Newman M8000 80GB

Newman is the most popular portable media player manufacturer in China, but, alas, we’ve only written twice about their products, and one of them is a video by Charbax, which features the M6000 and an apparently camera-less M8000. As Charbax’s video report indicated, the maximum storage capacity of the M8000 (which comes in black and white versions) is 200GB (not bad at all).

Newman makes very usable and yet elegantly designed PMPs, and the M8000 is no exception. Video support is up to par with current consumer needs: MP3, WMA and MPEG-1 (DAT, MPG, MPEG). MPEG-2 (DVD) and MPEG-4 (AVI) formats. The 4-inch widescreen (with 16:9 aspect ratio) has 16million colors. The on board 1.3 megapixel camera records video in720 x 480-pixel resolution. The M8000 also functions as a PVR and has a game emulator, TV out, SD extension and 4.5 hours of video playing. The price for the 80GB M8000 is 1,999 yuan ($261).

Song of America X-960 PMP With GPS

The Song of America X-960 is a strange name for a Chinese-brand mini-PMP. This is actually the same X-960 PMP with GPS we wrote about before from Gemei. It’s compatible with XVID, DIVX with encoding, MP3, WMA, WAV, Audio ASF and JPG, GIF, BMP and Macro Media Flash. The integrated GPS has preloaded maps for 400 cities (presumably, this includes cities outside China). All of these functionality including a built-in FM radio and FM recording, USB 2.0 with file management, 1GB onboard storage and MMC and SD extension of up to 4GB in a 111 × 75 × 25 mm form factor. Even better, it just had a price reduction to 1,888 yuan or about $13 less from the original price of $260.

SANSUI-614E PMP is 8MM Thick and Plays Harry Potter

Another slim PMP from China boasts video playback just a shade below big-screen standards. The SANSUI’s latest, the 614E is a 2.8-inch QVGA player with AVI (DivX), MP3, WMA, WAV and JPEG support. The casing is supposedly metal, and if that is true then we got ourselves another classic design from the globe’s most populous country. Not much else is known of this newly announced player except that you can sync it with your PC via USB and storage is a 2GB onboard SD card.

New China-Only Sony PMX-U53 PMP: The New Word in Iteration

This must be one of the most difficult cases of spot-the-difference, because for the life of me I could not see where the Sony PMX-U53 differ from the PMX-U50. As an iteration, the U53 is oddly identical to the original. Like it’s predecessor, the U53 has a 2.4-inch 320 x 240-pixel screen playing AVC (H.264/AVC) MPEG-4, AVI videos. The U53 has identical dimensions (68.3 x 86.4 x 7.1mm) with the U50 and also weighs 70 grams. FM tuner, stereo speakers, USB. Like the U50, the U53 comes in black, white and pink. It even gets the same 999-yuan ($132) pricing for the 1GB. So what makes the U53, the U53? If you understand Chinese, do let us know.

Shiny LG T54 PMP With DMB

LG puts a shine on every gadget that comes out of its factories. The LG T54 is a slim mini-PMP in a shiny metal box measuring 54.4 x 92.6 x 11.5mm. It boasts a 2.4-inch 260k-color TFT LCD screen. It plays AVI at 30fps and MP3, OGG, WMA and WAV audio files. It also supports JPG, BMP and TXT, in case you want a quiet read instead of listening to music or watching TV. Besides tuning in to DMB broadcasts, this LG plays games like a true made-for-China gadget. The battery on this one lasts 25 on music playback, 5 hours on video and 4 hours tuning in to digital TV. No price has been announced, but would’nt it be great if this was under $150?

China PMP Looks Like Mini Lunchbox

From BOL-LINK (the maker of the Game Boy Micro-like PMP) comes the MP-703, a flash memory-based MP4 player that looks like something you’d carry your lunch with. The product also plays MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA, ASF and WAV files. ID3 tags are supported, for all you fans of mobile karaoke.
The MP-703 also features digital audio recording, five EQ settings, an FM radio and a USB 2.0 port. Firmware is upgradable, and you can set a password-protected folder for all the stuff you’d rather not show other people. Memory capacity ranges from 128MB to 1GB in the usual increments. Sorry, no space for a sandwich.

Unnamed Device Receives DVB-T, Gives Many Expandability Opti...

Taiwan-based Newtrend Electronics has released a device that receives DVB-T and has electronic program guide (EPG) and teletext functionality. In case you want to play your own stuff, it supports WAV, AAC, MP3 and WMA audio files, and M-JPEG, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 and DivX video formats. It does regular JPEGs too, in case you want to use it as a digital photo frame. Believe it or not, this thing really is portable (despite the size), as shown by the Li-Pol battery.
This mystery device has a 7-inch TFT LCD with a 480×234-pixel resolution and contrast of 300: 1. A big fan of expandability, it has a slot for CF and Microdrive (pretty old-school, actually) cards. Not enough for you? There’s also a 5-in-1 slot for SD, MMC, MS, xD, and SMC cards. Built-in 2W stereo speakers are standard, as is a remote control. Dimension are 200×143x20.7mm. Hey, you can always stick in your ride if you get tired (car power adaptor included).

China PMP Saves Your Power, Converts Your Videos

Shenzhen Wistar is offering the F1 PMP, which comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen that allows brightness adjustment and normal/power saving modes (useful for those long trips without a socket in sight). While the product plays only AVI files, it thoughtfully comes with conversion software for noncompatible videos.
Audio-wise, MP3 and WMA formats (with ID3 tags) are supported. Oh, JPEG and TXT files too. The DM-k860 has a USB 2.0 port, and comes with built-in games and seven EQ settings. Dimensions are 82×55x12mm, and weight is 70g. No details on memory capacity, but at least we know it’s flash.
Editor: Oops. Looks like this is no undubbed no-name PMP but the very F1 PMP Thomson has introduced recently and even then re-introduced with a reduced price.

MA-727 From China Rips Samsung PMP

The MA-727 from Tri Cord looks a lot like the YP-T9/T9B. So much, in fact, that the product image might in fact be a slightly modified one from Samsung’s website. Maybe they spent all the money on R&D and had to “borrow” images from Samsung.
The MA-727 supports AVI, ASF, WMV, MP4, MTV, 3GP, MOV, MPEG, VOB and AKV files. For audio, MP3, MIDI, WMA, WAV and AAC versions can be played with ID3 tags. The device can also handle JPEGs and can be used as an e-book reader and audio recorder. An FM radio feature is likewise included.
A 2.4-inch TFT screen that displays up to 262,000 colors, speakers and a slot for miniSD and MMC cards up to 2GB are built-in. Memory ranges from 128MB to 2GB in capacity. Despite the image, Bluetooth doesn’t seem to be included.

Aigo Launches RealMedia-Playing MP5-E898

China-based Aigo just dropped the MP5-E898. Though a little short on details, we know that the device handles the RMVB format (for variable bitrate streams) aside from the standard type (RM). Oh, it also does AVIs. All videos are shown on a 3-inch screen capable of 16.7-million colors.
The MP5-E898 has an integrated FM radio, and can do digital sound recording, picture display (no word on format), and e-book functionality. It supports eight languages, including Chinese, English, French and Dutch. Dimensions are currently unknown, in case you were wondering.

Muslim-Oriented PMP Comes With Built-in Koran Translations

The M037Q from China’s Shenzhen Hailan Info-Tech targets the religious market with its 25 Koran translations, 20 Hadith books, five Tafsir books, prayer times and Kiblah direction. It also plays MPEG-4 files on its 2.5-inch, 265,000-color TFT screen.
Available in with or without a built-in digital camera, the product offers video and audio recording, and up to six hours of audio playback. It has an SD slot for cards up to 2GB in capacity, which is necessary considering the measly 512MB of flash memory. A USB port and speaker are built-in, and a Li-Pol battery is standard. Dimensions are 90×40x14mm, and weight is 64.8g

Techno-Preachers Rejoice: the iBible has Cometh

In line with the trend for religion-oriented PMPs, the iBible from KingNeed is a video-, audio- and photo-supporting (formats not specified) device equipped with a 3.2-inch touchscreen TFT display. Needless to say, this non-Apple product comes with a whole host of biblical features, as well as a miniSD slot for memory expansion.
The King James and World English versions of the Bible are included. Search via chapter title, verse, or keyword is allowed, and chapters can be bookmarked. A dictionary of biblical terms is included, as is an exam to check your memory-retention skills. The iBible also has PDA functions, such as contacts, calendar, task manager, memos, sketchpad, voice recorder, world clock, e-book reader and calculator. Dimensions are 2.6×4.5×6 inches.
If you’re interested, you can get one for $132.76 (but you’ll have to get at least five units). Salvation is, sadly, not part of the package.

Meizu M7 Concept Leaked

We’re not sure if Meizu CEO Jack Wong is going to push through with this concept. He said the M7 is going have a 3-inch touch screen with 16:9 aspect ratio. It’s got better viewing space than it’s nearest Apple competitor. However, Meizu is going to take a while to get this into consumer hands. We’re still waiting for the M8 and the miniOne has been the object of speculation for the better part of this year.

CVASQ-C811 Brings Old-School to Portable Gaming

Chinavasion has launched the very game-centric CVASQ-C811 PMP, which has a built-in emulator for Nintendo’s NES, Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Sega’s Mega Drive/Genesis games. It comes with a stand that doubles as a game pad, equipped with a D-pad, seven buttons and two speakers.
For videos (which run at 25fps), the device only supports AVIs, but it ships with software that converts RM, RMVB, WMV, ASF, MPEG, MPEG-4, MPE, DAT and MOV files. Audio-wise, it handles MP3, WMA and WAV formats. JPEG, GIF and BMP images and TXT documents are supported as well.
The CVASQ-C811 has a 3-inch QVGA LTPS TFT LCD with a resolution of 320×240 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio. If the 1GB internal memory seems a bit lacking, you can use the SD slot for cards up to 4GB in capacity. It can record audio as a WAV file, has a USB 2.0 port and is compatible with Windows 98, SE, ME, 2000 and XP, Mac OS X, and Linux 2.4.2.
